Department of Computing Science
When the short abbreviation IT appeared, we all suddenly became very
aware that information technology was well on its way to change society. We
are still at the beginning of this process, but it promises to be as revolutionary
as the Industrial Revolution. Here at the Department of Computing Science our
students and researchers are developing the technology of tomorrow.
The development of modern information technology is fast-paced and
difficult to predict, while at the same time it carries with it widespread
consequences for society. This applies to both the actual technology and the
ways information technology is used for different applications and the ways it
is combined with other technologies. Computing science as a subject is a
driving force in this development, and through research and education the
field, it helps society to both master and make use of the new technology. For
research, this means greater flexibility and preparedness for addressing new
problems that arise with the development of new technologies and their use. For
education, new technologies require the continual revision of course offerings
and syllabi to address developments.
The Department of Computing Science offers a major part of the courses at
the Master's Programme in Computing Science and Engineering and the Master's
Programme in Computing Science. The Master's Programme in Engineering offers
students the opportunity to specialise within cognitive science, parallel
computing, software engineering, and scientific computing. The programme also
offers elective courses for advanced studies.
