I work as a scientist and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computing Science
at Umeå University, in Sweden.
My room is at the fourth floor in the
MIT building (in Swedish),
and the room number is E 454.
Administration takes up much of my time since I work as director of studies where my main tasks are course descriptions and international
students.
Starting from January 2008 I'm working 50% (half time retired).
I'm responsible for the courses that comprise Master/Bachelor Thesis Projects.
Thesis Projects run over the whole year with 5 periods, normally in
the end of September, end of November, end of January, end of March and in the beginning of June when the thesis are presented and defended at a seminar.
The main project running now is parameter estimation in Artificial Neural Nets. This is a nonlinear least squares problem without constraints. In particular we study large problems where it is impossible to store the corresponding Jacobian matrix in main memory. We use a truncated Gauss-Newton method to solve a sequence of Tikhonov regularized problems. The truncated search direction is computed using a conjugate gradient method where the computation of the Jacobian matrix times a vector is efficiently implemented in Matlab using Automatic Differentiation.
An other presentation (in Swedish) of myself you can find by clicking here.
If you are interested to read more about my work, you can have a look at my list of publications. I'll be happy to send you any article you want if you just drop me an email, including the name of the report and your postal address. Below are some links that may be of interest.
